Interview With a Makeup Artist – Anila Ali

Through this series on the blog, I have met some of the sweetest and most talented persons in Pakistan. And so,  today with us we have Anila Ali!
Check out her interview below and make sure to hit “like” if you enjoyed reading about her, and comment below and show some love!

Since when have you started this makeover service? What triggered you?
I still remember playing dress up since I was a little kid. I was always inclined towards fashion and makeup since a kid but there were phases in my life I was actually a tom boy throughout my teen and a sports maniac too being an international level foot ball player if I put it in the right way. Nobody could ever imagine me as a makeup artist. People are still shocked to see me as one haha . It basically began around 6 years back. I enrolled myself into a makeup class and after one week I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I worked on my skills and its been a year I have been doing it professionally.

How do you stay motivated and what keeps you going? An inspiration?
Passion has no boundaries and being a makeup artist is what I have always dreamt about and now that I am on this path there is no looking back. My family has always been my support system there is nothing I can do without my husband especially, he has given me wings to fly and achieve my goals in my life.

What is your signature look that you and your clients both love?
I don’t have a signature look I generally go with the clients demand and suggest what is best for them so I create different looks for every canvas that’s what an artist should do right doing the same thing over and over does not make your work different and special.

What is “makeup” to you? (philosophically)
Makeup to me is happiness. I enjoy my work and make people happy through my work on their big days what more can I want from life/

Any funny or cool experience with a client that you would like to share? Who has been your favorite client so far? A favorite memory.
I can’t name one favorite client there are so many. But I would like to mention one client who came to get her nikkah makeup done around a year back she still messages me of how she is sad about not getting her wedding makeup done as it was not in Karachi. She sends me greetings on different occasions and is always catching up with me through messages which is really sweet of her.

What about a bad experience? Any failures, mistakes or regrets? A type of client you would refuse to take?
Alhumdulillah no bad experiences which I regret but yes clients who are not punctual turns me off.

Any message you would like to give to all the aspiring makeup artists and hairstylists? Any tips?
To all the aspiring artists one thing I would like to say is love your work be passionate about it never stop learning and keep practicing. Practicing is the key.

Recommend us a freelance beautician that we can contact for next month’s interview, if you think they should be featured.

Besides makeup and beauty, what are your interests? Passion?
Besides being a makeup addict I love buyings bags and I am still passionate about sports.

What is your biggest pet peeve, generally?
To name a few personal Hygiene and bad odor.

If you could change one thing about this world, what would it be?

What, according to you, is the philosophy of life? Biggest lesson you’ve learned in life so far?
Love what you do, do it with all the passion and be honest eventually everything will fall in place.

What has been the best moment of your life so far?
When I held Shanzay (my 2 year old daughter) in my arms for the first time.

One rule, according to you, that should be followed to lead a happier life?
Pray no matter what. Live and let live.

What is the biggest beauty secret for any woman, according to you?
Drink lots of water. Eat healthy.
